Yoga is an ancient practice that has been used for centuries to help improve physical and mental wellbeing. Today, yoga is increasingly popular as a way to reduce stress and bring clarity and peace to the mind. At Thousand Petaled Lotus Yoga Centre in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, we offer a variety of yoga classes to help our students find inner balance and focus.
In this blog post, we’ll share five yoga poses that can help clear the mind and bring a sense of calm to your day. Each pose provides a different benefit and can be done at any level of yoga experience.
1. Child’s Pose (Balasana)
The Child’s Pose is a resting pose that can be used to reduce stress and calm the mind. This pose helps to stretch the lower back and hips, while also allowing the body to relax deeply into the pose. To get into this pose, start by kneeling on the floor and sitting back onto your heels. Then, slowly lower your torso down between your legs while extending your arms out in front of you. Hold this pose for several breaths and then slowly come out of it.
2. Cat-Cow Pose (Marjaryasana-Bitilasana)
The Cat-Cow Pose is a great way to clear the mind and release tension from the back and spine. This pose helps to stretch and open the spine, as well as relax the neck and shoulders. To get into this pose, start by getting on all fours with your wrists underneath your shoulders and your knees underneath your hips. As you inhale, arch your back and look up towards the ceiling. As you exhale, round your back and tuck your chin into your chest. Move between these two poses for several breaths.
3. Downward-Facing Dog (Adho Mukha Svanasana)
Downward-Facing Dog is a classic pose that helps to stretch and strengthen the entire body. This pose also helps to calm the mind and bring a sense of clarity. To get into this pose, start by coming onto all fours and then press your hands into the ground while lifting your hips up towards the ceiling. Make sure to keep your legs and arms straight while keeping your core engaged. Hold this pose for several breaths and then slowly come out.
4. Warrior II (Virabhadrasana II)
The Warrior II pose is a great pose for finding focus and concentration. This pose helps to open the hips, chest and shoulders, while also strengthening the legs and arms. To get into this pose, start by standing with your feet about four feet apart and then turn your right foot out to the side. Bend your right knee and extend your arms out to the side. Stay here for several breaths and then switch sides.
5. Tree Pose (Vrksasana)
The Tree Pose is a balancing pose that helps to bring focus and concentration to the mind. This pose helps to improve balance, while also strengthening the legs and core. To get into this pose, start by standing with your feet together. Then, slowly lift your right foot off the ground and place the sole of your foot onto your left thigh. Press your hands together at your heart center and stay here for several breaths. Then, switch sides.
